The EasySplit OCB splitter is a new product that allows VHF radios, AIS Class B transponders, and FM radios to be connected to one VHF antenna.
 
The EasySplit OCB (Operates Class B) is designed for operation with marine VHF radios and AIS transponders.  The unit checks to see if there is transmission power on the VHF antenna.  If a VHF radio transmission is occurring the EasySplit OCB will momentarily disconnect the radio in less than 1ms. and reconnect as soon as the AIS transmission is complete.  As the AIS data is transmitted digitally the transmission time and interruption to the VHF message is extremely short.
 
Designed to operate with the majority of AIS transponders we have carried out trials and found the unit gives excellent operation with the Comar CSB200 transponder and a marine VHF antenna.  This option allows the advantage of having the AIS antenna at the masthead giving significantly extra transmission and receiving range.

This high quality AIS transponder from Comar Systems on the Isle of Wight is an important element in the safety of yachtsmen.  In addition to gathering information concerning other vessels for display on your PC it also broadcasts the details of your own vessel enabling you to be seen by local shipping and enabling them to contact your yacht using DSC if necessary.  Comar confirm that the unit operates very well with a conventional VHF antenna - with little measurable benefit in using a specially tuned unit.  Height is important however and to operate at the masthead without interfering with your marine VHF the EasySplit OCB splitter (shown above) is recommended.  We have set up this unit using a standard VHF antenna at the masthead and have received AIS data from vessels at a distance of over 20 miles.

The CSB200 is a sturdy compact unit 190mm x 120mm x 50mm

Introducing the CSD200

The CSD200 is a dedicated colour AIS Display from Comar Systems is designed to display and control information from either the CSA200 Class A AIS transponder or the CSB200 Class B transponder. Full initialisation and control over either transponder is available from simple menu setup screens.
All AIS equipped vessels within VHF range can be displayed on a radar like screen or on a worldwide background chart, and with the addition of a C-Map chart cartridge targets can be overlaid onto a full colour detailed chart background.

This popular AIS engine has just been updated to version 2.  Is has a nine pin serial port for connection to your PC.  If you don't have a serial port available on your computer you can use a serial to USB adapter cable.  All it requires is a 12V DC input and a VHF antenna.  The engine is supplied with Sea Clear software that runs on Windows up to version XP.  Any vessel displayed on the screen can be selected and its AIS data displayed - the engine also has in input for a GPS antenna.  The engine can be used with plotters including some Raymarine C and E series and other PC software.  An NMEA input at 38,400 baud is required.

    The SLR200 from Comar Sytems is a Dual Channel synthesized AIS receiver designed specifically for the Leisure Marine, Fishing Boat and Vessel Monitoring market. It enables coastal stations, or boats sailing in busy shipping lanes, to receive AIS (Automatic Identification System) information being transmitted from Class “A” AIS transponders as fitted to vessels over 300 tons, and non-mandatory Class "B" AIS transponders as fitted to small commercial and leisure craft.Two AIS receivers monitor both AIS channels simultaneously.

    • Unlike many AIS receivers that claim to be dual channel the SLR 200 / SLR 200G is a true parallel AIS receiver, ensuring that you receive the most up to date positions and information of all vessels around you. The SLR 200 includes an integrated NMEA multiplexer
    • Connected to a compatible onboard PC running a Navigation Program, or dedicated marine Chart Plotter, the information can be displayed on screen giving the skipper or harbour authority a visual interpretation of the name, position, course and speed of vessels within VHF range. This information is updated every 3 seconds to 6 minutes depending on speed and rate of turn, enabling the track of the vessels in range to be plotted.

    The SLR200G contains an internal GPS receiver.
